Homemaker - - - October 1, 2002 Modesto, CA This doll, whose date is 1862, was brought by the US Ambassador to France to my grandmother, Elisabeth Givens Nichols when she was a little girl in San Francisco in the 1870's. I think that there was another doll that the ambassador brought that was said to have walked across Lincoln's desk, and that story has been attached to this doll. It's been passed down. My grandmother passed it to her son and my father passed it on to me. We went to San Francisco several years ago to a TV program called "Appraise It" at Butterfield and Butterfield. They had me appear on a TV program and they talked to me about the doll and authenticated it. We brought it home and put it in the safe deposit box. It's going to be passed on to the next generation, Eileen will get the doll. The watch belonged to my great grandfather, Robert Robertson Givens. My father's side of the family is where most of these things came from. Richard will inherit the watch. On my father's side of the family they kept things. More and more I'm realizing that what they kept was valuable to the family. In my generation we seldom knew our grandparents or great grandparents. I know that this watch belonged to my great grandfather and I know that when I hold it. In case:
