Mary Eldredge  (1911–)
Chairman of the Board of Education of the Fayetteville Schools

“Now I know the correct thing is integration, the moral thing. But I believe in segregation for the betterment of the young blacks. I feel that the black children have to have something to impress them. When I lived in the North, very few black students went to college. In the South, a larger percentage went on to college. Why? Because they were encouraged."
