Lela Bostic Goffney  (1910–1984)
Minister

“I’m not down. I’m up.”

Lela Goffney of Rocky Mt., NC, was the third of fourteen children, whose marriage when she was  fourteen caused her father to turn her out of the house.  When the marriage failed, she raised their four children alone, working a a cook and a stemmer to send them all to college. She preached in the Holiness Church, feeling that she had been called by God.
